The U.S. Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced today that MITAGS continues to meet the qualifying standards as a Center of Excellence (CoE) for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education. MITAGS was an inaugural CoE designee announced on May 19, 2021.
MARAD seeks to recognize and promote maritime training providers that demonstrate efforts to admit additional students, recruit and train faculty, expand facilities, create new maritime pathways, and award students credit for prior experience, including military service. The selection process includes review of data that demonstrate records of success in maritime workforce training, education, program effectiveness, and community outreach to promote maritime careers. Also considered are approvals granted by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board.
Rebecca Evans, Instructional Design Coordinator, supports the development of the new MITAGS online learning management system. Rebecca shared, “The CoE designation is an acknowledgment of MITAGS’ continued dedication to mariner workforce development through a multitude of training programs and operational research. Our team is honored to be recognized for our commitment to providing a bright and safe future for the maritime community.”
