Leadership and Teamworking Skills

The one (1) day seven (7) hour course (MITAGS-768) covers those areas of leadership techniques and skills pertinent to operational or entry-level professional mariners. Course information and presentations reflect academic writings and “real life” experiences of individuals who have been in positions of leadership and have been or are responsible for the success of the organization and the success of individuals who work for and support the organization.The Course further provides communications techniques and skills that assist and augment the individual in his or her efforts to become a successful leader.

What You Will Learn
Provide an understanding of Leadership and describe it in practical terms and address areas where attendees have been applying Leadership in their daily activities.
Address and discuss the differences between good leadership and good management and why it is important not to confuse the two.
Provide an understanding of the positive leader’s behavior and characteristics and traits and discuss how those are applicable in the maritime environment.
Address and discuss Motivation, Followship and Teamwork along with the need for understanding and reflecting these variations of leadership in a maritime, shipboard environment.
Address and discuss the process and importance of Decision Making and provide a model of the Decision Making process.
Address the embodiment of a leader’s role reflected in the words Authority, Responsibility and Accountability.
Address and discuss the importance of human communications and ways in which humans effectively communicate with each other.
