Course Description
This course is required once in a career. Approved by the Military Sealift Command (MSC), this is an orientation course to introduce mariners to MSC's Force Protection program onboard ship. The combined lecture and practical course includes the following:
- Shipboard security watch organization
- Force continuum
- Rules for the Use of Force
- Security communications
- Surveillance
- Defense in Depth
- Gangway entry control concepts
- Searches
- Entry control: special situations
Attendees that successfully complete this course will be able to act as watch standers on MSC owned and operated vessels and to provide the necessary skills and abilities to perform the duties of the gangway watch stander, roving patrol, and member of the security watch.
What You Will Learn
This course is both lecture based and includes practical labs, where the student is required to demonstrate and practice their skills and apply the knowledge learned in class.
The attendee must be able to demonstrate the ability to stand a proper security watch to include skills such as entry control, bag searches, bomb searches and basic handcuffing.
