Course Description

This DNV-GL approved program is a comprehensive training portfolio consisting of two courses for a Port Engineer. The courses provide the necessary management skills to supervise and support ship operations, and upkeep and maintenance from ashore. This course is designed as per DNV-GL Standard DNVGL-ST-0009 - Competence of Ships' Superintendents - August 2014.

Students will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of structural strength of a ship and ensure that it is maintained at all times during operation.

  • Understand the principles of maintenance, competency requirements of shipstaff and the importance of critical spares in ensuring safe and effective machinery operation.

  • Analyze onboard maintenance procedures and prevent machinery malfunctions.

  • Understand the functional purpose of control systems and automation onboard and the emergency procedures to be followed when the automation system fails.

  • Know the functions of technical equipment, their commissioning, maintenance and necessary certification requirement.
