Course Description

This program is a comprehensive training portfolio consisting of seven courses for a Ship Superintendent. The courses provide the necessary management skills to supervise and support ship operations, and upkeep and maintenance from ashore.  This course is designed as per DNV-GL Standard DNVGL-ST-0009 - Competence of Ships' Superintendents - August 2014.


The program is divided into Seven (7) broad areas of a typical ship superintendent’s responsibilities/portfolio.

  • Corporate and Social Responsibility - Industry Organizations, Role of Superintendent, Personnel Management

  • International Conventions, Flag States and Classification Societies- IMO, ILO, Conventions and Codes, Flag State, Classification Societies and Class Notations

  • Financial Management for Ships - Budget and Cost Control, Purchase, Sale, Takeover and Delivery, Reporting and Record Keeping, Purchasing

  • Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) - Risk Management and ISPS Code, Health and Environment, Emergency Response, Ship Recycling

  • Marine Insurance and Law - International Conventions , ISM Code-MS, Classification Society, Registration of Ships, Marine Insurance

  • Project Management and Quality Assurance - Project Management, Quality Assurance, Information Technology

  • Ship Certification and Surveys - Ship Inspections, Certification and Survey of Ships, Port State Control

  • Ship Performance, Drydocking, and Repairs - Monitoring of Ships Performance, Drydocking and Repairs, Corrosion Protection and Painting Systems
