SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies is looking for an Instructional Design Manager to lead the development of curricula, for in-person and online synchronous and asynchronous training. Responsible for working with the Instructional Design Coordinator and Instructional Faculty, the IDM is responsible for quality management and adherence to regulations and standards, to meet external approval authority requirements. The IDM will also be responsible for seeking new methodologies and technology to support teaching in the classroom, evaluating how well the curriculum meets student and customer needs. Oversight of instructors will be critical, monitoring procedures to ensure that successful implementation of the curriculum and that standards of delivery and record keeping are maintained. Meets with instructors and advisory groups to explore how curriculum materials relate to our students’ occupations and meeting their needs.

MAJOR DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and subject matter experts across both the East and West Campuses to develop new curricula (classroom-based and distance learning training courses) whilst maintaining existing courses.
- Create and manage a subject-based Learning Objective management process to enable timely delivery of custom course requirements, as well as through-life learning and reinforcement between courses.
- Assess educational programs for quality and adherence to regulations and standards. Ensure training courses renewals and updates are submitted to governing entities for approval and review in a timely manner.
- Implementing new methodologies and technology in the classroom, including Learning Management Systems and Computer Based Training for synchronous and asynchronous courses.
- Evaluate how well training programs meet student needs. Ensure all means of delivery are considered, including Audio Visual.
- Work with Business Development to manage course costing and market placement for new training programs.
- Ensure evaluation and testing meets appropriate requirements for integrity. Develop tests, questionnaires, and procedures that measure the effectiveness of curricula, and use these tools to determine whether program objectives are being met.
- Work with instructors and Subject Matter Experts to ensure appropriate, up to date references are captured for all required courses.
- Assist the Director in planning and providing onsite education for instructors. Keep abreast of the latest instructional methods and make recommendations for enhancement of individual and overall performance and delivery of programs.
- Lead the IDC in compliance and delivery of external accreditation reviews and audits.
- Ensure proper process management for curriculum development of new programs to Project leaders. Oversee schedules for completion of projects; proposing goals and monitoring deadlines for approval and implementation.
- Manage and oversee the QSS processes.
- Performs other duties within the scope of the positions as assigned by Supervisor.
- Position will require travel to the West Campus and other offsite locations, no more than 15% of time.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Educational / Instructional Design or equivalent topic area.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an academic institution or setting required.
- Experience in developing and implementing Learning Management System policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making skills; initiative and ability to perform tasks and projects with minimum or no guidance required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Strong verbal and writing skills required.
- Experience with using basic computer skills, such as Excel, PowerPoint & Word.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicable Master’s Degree desired.
- Possession of a USCG license or knowledge of, or work experience in the maritime field is a definite plus.
- A proven record in working successfully with diverse populations.
- A positive attitude and ability to plan and adapt to change.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with departments and cross-functional teams.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard office/classroom setting. Duties may require occasional travel to off-site locations.
