The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) and the Pacific Maritime Institute (PMI) are the primary training facilities for members of the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots (IOMM&P). MITAGS and PMI offer over one hundred training programs that have been specifically designed to enhance your maritime career. Offsite and custom training is also available for members that must meet contractual company and/or regulatory requirements. For a list of "Required Courses by Company," please download the file listed below in the "Downloads" section.

MITAGS and PMI are part of a non-profit trust called the Maritime Advancement, Training, Education, and Safety (MATES) Program. This Trust has been in operation since 1968 and is governed by a ten-member Board of Trustees. The Board is divided equally between both Union and Company representatives. Traditionally, the International President serves as Chairman and the senior company representative serves as Secretary. The Board meets at least three times per year to set policies; however, the daily operation of the program is delegated to the Executive Director.

The MATES Program is not supported by IOMM&P Union Dues or Federal/State Agencies. MITAGS and PMI generate revenue from various sources, including the following:

- Rental Space - ILA Crane School
Basic/advanced crane and refrigeration container training for members of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA).

- The Conference Center at the Maritime Institute (CCMIT)
CCMIT provides facilities support for MITAGS. CCMIT also operates the onsite hotel, dining room, and conference/meeting rooms.

IOMM&P members that meet certain requirements may take up to four weeks of training (up to eight weeks for Trust students enrolled in the License Advancement Program) per eligibility period. Tuition and room/board is provided at the MITAGS campus. Tuition only is paid at PMI.

Transportation
Trust students that meet certain requirements may be eligible for pre-paid, round trip transportation to MITAGS.
