   Automatic Radar Plotting Aids 

 
 
Course Description:                                  
The goal of this 5-day STCW'95 required course is to train pilots and deck officers in the propper use of ARPA.  The curriculum exeeds IMO requirements.  "Hands-on" simulation is conducted on Raytheon, Sperry, and Furuno ARPA's.  The successful completion of the course entitles attendees to a USCG/STCW ARPA certificate and an unlimited radar renewal endorsement. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Course Subjects:                                 
  • Proficiency in Manual Radar Plotting.
  • The Principal ARPA Systems and the Inputs to the Systems
  • Performance Standard, Limitations and Tracking Theory of the ARPA Tracking Facility.
  • Set up and Maintenance of an ARPA Display.
  • Identifying and Evaluating Errors in Displayed ARPA Data.
  • Understanding and Applying the COLREGS to the Use of Radar and ARPA.
